Christine B. Foundation Nutritional Assistance Program in Eastern Maine

Bangor Region Businesses Form Nutrition Co-Op To Feed Cancer Patients With Christine B. Foundation

No-Cost Nutrition Assistance For Eastern Maine Cancer Community

Bangor, Maine (2/1/2021) The Christine B. Foundation, along with the help of many Bangor region businesses, are able to provide further funding in 2021 to the CBF Nutrition Assistance program through the Nutrition Co-Op. This Co-Op was created and presented by the CBF community to provide nutritional assistance to those affected by cancer.

“Accessing nutrient-rich foods through cancer treatment should be seen as a basic right, leading to better health outcomes for every cancer patient,” Matt Dexter, Founder of CBF, stated.

In 2020, 45,000 meals were provided to cancer patients and survivors at CBF’s Northern Light Cancer Care site in Brewer as well as delivered daily to individuals in the Eastern Maine region. Local produce, grains, and proteins are part of each CBF Nutrition Assistance package provided at no-cost to patients and their families by volunteers. In total, volunteers traveled over 20,000 miles collectively and helped roughly 1,100 patients, survivors, and caregivers in 220 eastern Maine towns.

Community businesses and individuals pledged over $30,000 in support through 2021 to this Co-Op, ranging in gift size and frequency around their ability.

“This has been a tremendously hard year for area businesses. We take great pride and responsibility knowing this group of businesses and community leaders believe in this program’s impact. Thanks to each of these sponsors, we are able to ensure no cancer patients or survivors go without access to nutrient-rich groceries in 2021,” said Dexter.
