A letter from CBF President & Executive Director:

Dear CBF Community,
2018 has been quite a busy year for us and I’d like to take a moment to share an update with you.
Since inception, CBF has held on tight to the values of creativity, collaboration, and a commitment to Maine. In the last year, we’ve been invited to the Maine Cancer Foundation’s Challenge Cancer 2020 state-wide initiative. In addition, CBF and close regional partners established the Downeast & Penquis Cancer Support Coalition to strengthen the communication and outreach of Maine’s rural organizations. We’ve also, empowered young adults to become leaders in their communities and advocates for cancer support, using running as a platform to unite them.

We invite you to be part of CBF’s next chapter. In the summer of 2018, CBF was awarded a grant, from the Carolan Research Institute, to conduct a Community Needs Assessment in Eastern Maine. Our goal is to better understand the experiences, needs, and preferences of cancer patients, survivors, and their family members. We are ready to listen to the communities we serve through focus groups and surveys (August – September), uncover services that our neighbors continue to seek, and deliver on our mission to support those affected by cancer in Eastern Maine.

From early-2017 to present day, our team has dedicated time and energy to remain community-focused and understand how CBF can compliment services to strengthen the community impact we can leave together. Our main focuses are, a comprehensive platform for holistic & personalized support, a streamlined process for transportation services, and ensure short-term lodging is both available and suitable for patients &/or families traveling for treatment.

We’re calling on those in Eastern Maine (Piscataquis, Penobscot, Hancock, and Washington Counties). Please, share your experience, invest in our mission with your knowledge and passion, and help CBF build sustainable change for our cancer community.

Your voice matters and I hope we will hear from you.

All the best,

Matt Dexter
