Music therapy is an evidence-based healthcare profession that uses music as a tool to address measurable goals and ease symptoms. As an intervention for patients who have cancer, decades of research demonstrate that music therapy has beneficial effects on pain, mood, coping skills, and quality of life.  Music therapists work as part of healthcare teams in leading medical institutions across the country, but it is still an emerging field here in Maine. The Christine B. Foundation is partnering with a board-certified music therapist with over 17 years of experience in clinical music therapy and healthcare management. Carla Tanguay, MA, MT-BC, is the owner of Modulations Therapies, a private practice music therapy agency serving Hancock and Penobscot Counties. She is a published researcher and frequent presenter at conferences, medical schools, and area organizations.
