Nutrition Assistance Collaboration Created Between the Christine B. Foundation and Northern Light Health
Christine B. Foundation partners with Northern Light Health oncology sites in Eastern Maine
Bangor, Maine (4/1/2021) – The Christine B. Foundation (CBF) is working with Northern Light Health to address nutrition assistance among patients with cancer. Currently, the Foundation’s nutrition assistance program offers no-cost grocery packages to patients with cancer, recent survivors, and their families across eastern Maine. With this collaboration, CBF’s nutrition assistance program is now offered at Northern Light Cancer Care in Brewer as well as Northern Light Mayo Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft for patients with cancer to pick up packages onsite.
“Northern Light Health continues to demonstrate that nutrition assistance is a key focus for the organization. The CBF team is thrilled to collectively work with them in order to ensure no patient with cancer has to question if they will have the time, resources, or strength to access their next meal,” said CBF founder and executive director Matt Dexter.
Each nutritional package is built around the household’s preferences, which include the choice between a variety of produce, proteins, and grains. Nutrition is a significant tool in every patient’s treatment plan. The ability to remove barriers while accessing proper nutrients, through onsite pick up, offers patients and families a bit more comfort and hope.
“Northern Light Mayo Hospital is thrilled to be a part of the program with the Christine B. Foundation! Food insecurity has long been a community need and focus for the staff at Mayo Hospital, and assisting one of our most vulnerable populations, those with cancer, is so rewarding. The patients absolutely love the program,” stated Northern Light Mayo Hospital president Marie Vienneau.
Through this partnership, CBF is also able to offer home delivery across 11,500 square miles of eastern Maine, supporting patients who may not have frequent appointments at the oncology centers.
The nutrition assistance pick-up schedule is as follows:
- Northern Light Cancer Care pick-up site, Monday – Friday, 12-3pm.
- Northern Light Mayo Hospital pick-up site, Tuesday 10am-5pm or by appointment.
