The Christine B. Foundation Honors Dedicated Volunteers Serving Cancer Patients

Bangor, Maine– The Christine B. Foundation community of cancer support is 120+ strong, powered by volunteers and partners across eastern Maine. In 2019*9,600 new malignant cancer cases were identified among Maine residents and there were 3,413 cancer deaths among Maine residents. 2022 marked its second year of celebrating and recognizing three exceptional leaders of the team for the 2022 Volunteer of the Year, 2022 Healthcare Partner of the Year, and 2022 Community Partner of the Year.

“Individually these awards represent the significant commitment of time, resources, and talent to addressing cancer with CBF. Each of these recipients has improved the overall mission while collectively reminding us that facing cancer requires a multi-sector effort,” said Christine B. Foundation Executive Director, Matt Dexter.

CBF would like to extend its gratitude to the following members of our Eastern Maine Community:

2022 Volunteer of the Year - Dan Bahr

For his 250+ hours of volunteerism this year through CBF's cancer nutrition assistance program. From making home deliveries as well as greeting patients with cancer at CBF's hospital site at Northern Light Cancer Institute, Dan is a source of hope for many. He goes above and beyond in his role, training new volunteers, improving the program's supply chain, and never forgetting how far a small gesture goes.

2022 Health Care Partner of the Year - Dr. Elizabeth Dennis

Dr. Dennis, director of survivorship at Northern Light Cancer Institute, is a pioneer for community and medical services coming together to care for our cancer community. She plays an active role in advocating for CBF's service line expansion to include oncology dietitians and is part of the programs committee, convening stakeholders throughout the year to advance this effort.

2022 Community Partner of the Year - Good Shepherd Food Bank, Hampden Team

For their kind, genuine, and endless commitment to providing food to CBF and their 500+ partners in Maine. The Good Shepherd Food Bank makes a notable difference in our community and the CBF vision. In 2022 they continue to advance CBF's innovative distribution of nutrition, bring partners together, provide and identify funding sources, and are always greeting us with a smile during weekly food order pick-ups.
